
KSM Steel optimizes cartridge filter system with a tailored solution from Simas Filters
At KSM Steel in Kragelund, the company faced significant challenges with a cartridge filter system that required the filter cartridges to be replaced or washed every three weeks. Since each cartridge could only withstand four to five washes, the system was both resource-intensive and costly to maintain.
The cleaning system – the "lungs" of the unit – was not efficient enough
After a thorough review of the system, a technical consultant from Simas Filters found that the filter media itself had been correctly selected. The problem lay within the cleaning system – the unit’s "lungs". Measurements revealed that the cleaning air shot from the plenum chamber was not reaching the cartridges effectively. The distance between the cartridges and the blowpipe was too great, which resulted in insufficient cleaning performance.
Custom-designed nozzles with 30% higher efficiency
Simas Filters designed and installed custom nozzles directly on the existing blowpipe. These nozzles feature special openings that draw in additional air from the clean air chamber, increasing the cleaning efficiency by up to 30 percent. The improved airflow ensures that the cartridges are now cleaned effectively without needing frequent replacement.
Result: More than 2.5 years of operation without cartridge replacement
Since implementation, KSM Steel’s cartridge filter system has been running smoothly for over two and a half years without needing cartridge replacements. This has led to significant cost savings and a more stable production environment.
